The U.S.-China Hegemonic Rivalry and the Future of the Korean Peninsula

Following last year’s trade war, the flames of the U.S.-China hegemonic conflict, ignited this year by COVID-19, are spreading in all directions. From questions of responsibility for quarantine measures to Hong Kong’s National Security Law, semiconductors, exchange rates, and the proposed anti-China economic bloc, tensions between the United States and China are rapidly escalating. In this diplomatic and security environment, South Korea may face a situation in which it must choose between the United States and China. This seminar has been organized to assess the future direction of the U.S.-China hegemonic rivalry and to consider the best options for our government for the future of the Korean Peninsula.
