The Individual, Community, and Freedom in the Post-COVID Era

During the COVID-19 crisis, governments around the world readily implemented various nationalist policies to prevent the spread of the epidemic. Representative examples include entry bans, price controls on quarantine supplies, and export bans. In a national disaster situation, concerns have been raised that individual freedom is being seriously threatened, but some argue that a certain degree of sacrifice is realistically unavoidable in order to stabilize the situation. This closed roundtable was organized to critically examine the liberal philosophy concerning the individual and the community in relation to the COVID-19 crisis, and to share perspectives on the post-COVID era.
