AI and Humans: A Paradigm Shift

Artificial intelligence (AI) is providing economic benefits to humans in various ways across a wide range of fields. This trend is expected to accelerate in the future. There is a saying that will still hold true even in a world that coexists with AI: “There is no such thing as a free lunch.” There are also risk factors corresponding to these economic benefits. Raymond Kurzweil predicted that artificial general intelligence (AGI), in which AI surpasses the intelligence of an individual human, will be reached in 2029, and that the singularity, when AI catches up with human capabilities and intellect, will be reached in 2045 (Kurzweil, 2005). AI is both an opportunity and a threat to us.

This report seeks to explore various topics centered on the interaction between AI and humans and to provide insight into how humans and AI can coexist in future society.

First, it examines the interaction between AI and humans. Human-AI interaction is becoming increasingly deepened, and among its many dimensions, emotional interaction is emerging as a highly important area of research. This report surveys the current state of emotional interaction between humans and AI and discusses major trends and future prospects in this field. It will also examine the social application of AI.

Next, it looks at changes in the human role and in human values. Through interaction with AI, humans may gain an opportunity to become more fully human, which could serve as a chance to reexamine the intrinsic value of human beings.

Finally, it considers technological development and social impact. The social application of AI has positive effects such as improving productivity and expanding accessibility. At the same time, it also gives rise to issues such as job displacement and privacy protection, making continued discussion necessary. In addition, advances in AI technology raise various ethical issues, and these issues, combined with legal and social response systems that are progressing relatively slowly compared to the pace of technological development, present complex challenges.
