The Center for Free Enterprise (CFE) and member of the National Assembly Sooyoung Park will hold an emergency diagnostic policy debate, “Is It Appropriate to Establish a Future Response Fund?” on Thursday, September 10, at 10:00 a.m. in Conference Room 10 of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building.
The government has announced that it will establish a new “Future Response Fund” worth 162 trillion won starting next year. The plan is to finance it with “additional tax revenue” expected from the semiconductor boom, but concerns continue to be raised that it could become a “slush fund for the administration” that bypasses the National Assembly’s fiscal oversight. There are also projections that, because its funding source is tied to the semiconductor business cycle, the fund could be depleted within five years. If today’s “future response” is not to become a “mortgage” on future generations, it must be examined now. Accordingly, the Center for Free Enterprise (CFE), together with the office of Assemblyman Sooyoung Park, will hold this emergency diagnostic policy debate to assess the fund’s financing structure and oversight mechanisms and to explore alternatives.
