National People’s Union Fair Market Committee “Reviving the Economy” Debate Series

Although the National Pension Service is retirement funding entrusted by the people, the Moon Jae-in administration’s management of the National Pension Service has revealed problems such as a lack of “expertise” and “objectivity,” making pension fund management perfunctory and susceptible to camp-based political logic.

This discussion will examine the problems with stewardship activities stipulated under the National Pension Act and the resulting involvement in corporate management, while seeking ways to ensure the stable management of pension funds. It will also explore alternatives by raising concerns that pension funds, through joint ventures with the Teachers’ Pension Fund and private equity funds, could expose the management of Korea’s leading companies to government control.
