On July 10, 2025, a book concert for *A Political Economy Understanding of Public Debt* was held.
This event examined the issue of public debt from a political economy perspective that goes beyond economic indicators, offering an in-depth look at the structural background behind rising national debt and its impact.
Professor Youngshin Kim emphasized that this is a recurring phenomenon driven by political incentives and information asymmetry, and presented the need for the legal institutionalization of fiscal rules, greater transparency in policymaking, and fiscal management based on the principles of a free market economy.
In the discussion session, former Daegu City Fiscal Inspection Team Head Daecheol Kim drew on his extensive on-the-ground policy experience to provide an in-depth analysis of complex issues such as the structure of intergenerational conflict surrounding public debt and the political drivers of tax expenditures. He also stressed that, as an institutional response to restrain repeated fiscal expansion and the accumulation of public debt, it is necessary to legally institutionalize fiscal rules and enhance transparency in policy decisions.
We sincerely thank everyone who participated.
