The book concert “Law Meets Economics” was held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
This event explored the intersection of law and economics through everyday examples, examining various legal issues—such as private property rights, rights to sunlight, and breach of trust—from the perspective of economic efficiency. The author, Dr. 김정호 (former Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Economics, Sogang University), pointed out how laws and institutions are often distorted by political interests. He emphasized that institutional design should be guided by market autonomy and efficiency, and argued that reducing unnecessary regulation is essential to restoring dynamism in the Korean economy.
Professor 지인엽 of the Department of Economics at Dongguk University participated as a panelist and led a Q&A session with the author. Drawing on key themes from the book—such as the politicization of institutions, overregulation, overcriminalization, and corporate governance issues—he posed in-depth questions. In response, Dr. 김정호 discussed a wide range of everyday and corporate institutions, proposing that regulations which undermine market efficiency, such as sunlight-right regulations and medical fee controls, should be reformed, while corporate governance should be left to market autonomy rather than political logic.
We sincerely thank everyone who participated in the event.
